MARINE AQUARIUM
THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
The stunning beauty and the
staggering diversity of animals to be found in and around the world's ocean
often defies the imagination.
In recent years, interest in
marine fish keeping as a hobby has blossomed, and a whole industry has
grown up around providing equipment and a variety of livestock.
WHAT IS A MARINE FISH?
Fish are some of the most adaptable
animals on this planet. They occupy nearly every watery niche; saltwater,
freshwater, brackish water, hard water, soft water, cold water, lagoons,
tropical seas and arctic seas etc.
Marine fish, those that survive
and multiply in salt water, inhibit a relatively concentrated medium, containing
a host of dissolved substances e.g. salt.
WHAT IS AN INVERTEBRATE?
The term is a convenient, catch - all
title, loosely covering all those animals with no backbone and an internal
skeleton. Invertebrates range in size from microscopic planktonic animals
to giant squid that roam the waters.
The range of marine invertebrates
is so vast that there is no sea habitat in which they do not occur.
