  • THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
  •   The stunning beauty and the staggering diversity of animals to be found in and around the world's ocean often defies the imagination.
  •   In recent years, interest in marine fish keeping as a hobby has blossomed, and a whole industry has grown up around providing equipment and a variety of livestock.
  • WHAT IS A MARINE FISH?
  •   Fish are some of the most adaptable animals on this planet. They occupy nearly every watery niche; saltwater, freshwater, brackish water, hard water, soft water, cold water, lagoons, tropical seas and arctic seas etc.
  •   Marine fish, those that survive and multiply in salt water, inhibit a relatively concentrated medium, containing a host of dissolved substances e.g. salt.
  • WHAT IS AN INVERTEBRATE?
  • The term is a convenient, catch - all title, loosely covering all those animals with no backbone and an internal skeleton. Invertebrates range in size from microscopic planktonic animals to giant squid that roam the waters.
  •   The range of marine invertebrates is so vast that there is no sea habitat in which they do not occur.
