maintenance go hand in hand. It is an opportunity to restore and revitalize,
making sure that everything is as god as it can be and that the health
of the animals is preserved and extended.
Maintenance is a logical
system of regular activities designed to keep the aquarium fully functioning.
To successfully maintain an aquarium the following should be put into practice:
DAILY
1) Check livestock- no. and
general health
2) Check temperature
3) Empty protein skimmer
waste
4) Check equipment working
correctly
5) Remove any uneaten food
6) Enter observations into
aquarium log
7) Check water flow to denitrification
filter
8) Top up water in Osmolator
reservoir
9) Top up water and salt
in automatic water change systems
10) Adjust ozonizer output
EVERY OTHER DAY
1) Top up evaporated water
2) remove algae from front
glass
3) Clean prefilters in systemized
tans
WEEKLY
1) Clean cover glasses
2) Remove any “salt creep”
3) Add trace elements, pH
buffers and vitamin supplements
FORTNIGHTLY
1) Change 15-20% of water
2) Test for ammonia, nitrite,
nitrate, pH and specific gravity
3) replace filter floss in
canister filter
4) Disconnect fluorescent
tubes when cool, clean and dry out
5) Clean probes of electronic
meters and controllers
MONTHLY
1) Rake through the coral
sand substrate
B1- MONTHLY
1) Replace any airstones
2) Change carbon
3) Clean protein skimmer
4) Remove excess algae .Check
all electrical connections
EVERY THREE MONTHS
1) Clean pump impellers,
pipework, internal housing and check for wear
2) Clean out all canister
filter hoses
3) Change air filter pads
4) Clean the internal quartz
sleeve of the ultraviolet sterilizer
EVERY SIX MONTHS
1) Replace ultraviolet sterilizer
tubes
2) renew fluorescent tubes
and other lighting
3) Change damaged or worn
pump impellers
4) renew non- return air
